Alimony Options in Florida
Florida's divorce code has provided three alimony options based on the length of your marriage. We understand how the court approaches spousal support. We have extensive experience providing guidance for:
Bridge-the-gap alimony. For marriages that last less than seven years, this support enables an individual to transition from married life to single life. The court has discretion as to the amount of support awarded.
Rehabilitative alimony. For marriages that last seven to 17 years, this alimony helps an individual get into the workforce. The court has discretion as to the amount of support, and it may be combined with bridge-the-gap support.
Permanent alimony. For marriages that last more than 17 years, an individual can pursue bridge-the-gap, rehabilitative and permanent support. Permanent alimony is based on the demonstrative need of the individual pursuing support, as well as the other party's ability to pay the support. This support ends when the receiving spouse enters into a supportive relationship, such as getting remarried or moving in with another person.
Whether you are pursuing alimony or you are obligated to pay support, it is important that you consult with a lawyer who understands not only the law, but also the consequences.
